Things You should Not buy Used Vol. 2

This is the second post I’m going to be doing on things you should not buy used. It really should be “things i can’t believe people donated to the thrift store,” but oh well. This volume is a picture frame with a picture of someone’s child in it. There are many things that are troubling about this photo. The first is obvious. There is a picture of someone’s kid in the frame. An unwanted picture of a kid? Does that happen? When you look closer though you see that it is one of those book style picture frames that holds two pics with a hinge in the middle. There is only the one picture. Where is the other photo?! Why leave one it and take out the other?! Did someone not want to be seen with this child?! One other aspect is what I think is the most disturbing part. I can’t tell if this kid is just a little off looking in those glasses or if they are disabled. Either way something is not right with this girl. I have a scenario in my head about this girl being born with a developmental disability and that her parents were cruel enough to ship her to some institution somewhere, and never acknowledge her existence. Is this photo the only evidence of her life? Did her sibling find this in the attic and their parents lie and say it was a neighbors kid, then afterward take this photo along with all other evidence to the Goodwill in Asheboro where I found it? Or did I just drink too much coffee this morning?

this video rules…you may have seen it

this is badazz. im not sure about the band, Jogger, but they seem interesting. apparently the stud from “Night Court” had a son and he is in this band. The song is called “Nephicide.” which i couldn’t find on dictionary.com but I assume means nephew murder. i also love how it seems like this was made in iMovie.

Unflattering Photo’s of Me vol. 1

I’m starting off a new series of unflattering photos of myself. I’m not sure why but I find it really amusing. This first photo comes courtesy of my mom. This is after I fell into a deep food coma after gorging myself at Thanksgiving. Do you have any unflattering pictures of me? Send them to me. I want to make this a regular feature. Send them to keepingitrealandwhatnot@gmail.com

Reminiscing about Phon

So I was doing some file management on my laptop today, and I came across a bunch of Phon stuff. I miss me some Dustin. Don’t worry though, even with distance we are still going to make Phon happen. Anyway, I came across this illustration by Nathan Golub. It is an awesome drawing and shows my rig from 2006. Things are a lot different now. The illustration was for an article that appeared in the Indy. It was a round table discussion conducted by Brian Howe, and it featured local noise makers, Crowmeat Bob, Ryan Martin, Zeke Graves, Jeff Rehnlund, Anne Gomez, Robert Biggers, and myself. It makes for a fun read, but I can say that I should have spoken less.

This is sad.

This is terrible news. Trish Keenan has passed away. The sad irony that a woman with a voice almost always referred to as “haunting,” is no longer with us. The Broadcast has made some amazing records, where the fuzzy beats and psychedelic synthlines were always a perfect pad for Keenan’s voice. 2003’s “Haha Sound,” was a truly gorgeous album and it is one I give a lot of plays still. 2009 brought the Broadcast into collaboration with the Focus Group and the resulting “Broadcast & the Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age,” was one of my favorite records of the year. On that record everything sounds like a dream or a film score and Keenan’s voice seems to meander in and out of the bounds of each piece like a wandering spirit. I don’t usually say a lot when artists pass, but this totally fucking blows. She was way to young.

Has Anyone Seen this Mustache Comb?

Okay, so as many of you know I have a much beloved red mustache, and an also beloved mustache comb. The comb is handmade in France from Antelope horn. Don’t worry, from what I understand the antelope donated his antlers to science and/or mustache accessories products. The comb wasn’t very expensive but I do love it, and now it is MISSING!!!!! Has anyone seen it? It make have been seen in the greater Raleigh downtown area. It comes in a nice black sheath looking thing. I have been unable to comb my mustache for quite some time lately and it is getting tangled and the end are starting to split. If you have any leads let me know. I am greatly distressed. Also if you did find it and are thinking of keeping it, I should disclose that I also use it on my armpit hair.

Okay I want this too…

Okay so I’m not sure if I want men’s pajama jeans or this more. All I know is that I have been holding out on the Snuggie until a hooded version comes along (mainly because I would feel like Voldemort or Stephen O’Malley) but this is looking pretty awesome right now.
