next thursday night will be the inaugural voyage of the new monthly Neptunes Comedy Open Mic. im hoping it is great fun. if you are unfamiliar, Neptunes is an awesome bar in raleigh. Neptunes: 14 W Martin St, Raleigh, NC 27601, it is downstairs from King’s, and Garland (eat there before hand). i’m hoping to get some momentum behind this so we can keep it going. hopefully it will get established as a relaxed but focused spot for comics working on new stuff, as well as people who need a bit of a kick to try it out. obvs. time is limited, so it will be a show up go up with a cap on the number of people. its free to get in, so buy lots of drinks and tip the hell out of the bartenders. ever noticed how your drinks get stronger when you tip well? this is an issue that affects every museum, but to varying degrees. artists in a community often feel their local museum(s) neglect those creatives who are active in the area. here is an artist from miami, Maximo Caminero, who allegedly (caught on video) smashed a vase that was part of an Ai Weiwei installation, at the Perez Art Museum. Caminero claims it was in protest to the musuem’s policy of under-valuing and under-representing miami’s art scene. watch the video. while his point is valid, there is absolutely no reason for us to react as iconoclasts and break other people’s art. no matter how over rated they are.

also this action could be in direct retaliation to Ai Weiwei releasing this hot pile of mess upon the masses. Just as musicians want to become actors, some artists think they are musicians. this video and song are utter trash. watch for the frisson that comes from being embarrassed for someone else.
