At UNC I have been given a Research Assistantship at the brand new Makerspace. The space has three Makerbot 3D Printers, some Arduino kits, Raspberry Pi’s and some other fun bits of tech kit for people to try out and create projects with.
To say the possibilities are endless is of course overly optimistic and false. However I am super excited at how I and other folks around here can use these products to make functional objects, and how I personally can incorporate them into my art practice. Like many processes the more I learn about it the more things I am inspired to make with it!
After just scratching the 3D printing surface I already have a few things in the works:
name plaques with phrases (see above/not a Holzer parody)
hot shoe mountable icons
top secret bp project
fake data mediums (i rocked out a couple slammin’ fake SD cards!)
FUN FUN FUN, wer dup!!
